Referee Classes in Livermore this Summer

This year the Livermore Referee Association (LRA) has scheduled three referee classes for the training of new officials.

The two
Grade 8 Clinics are 6-9PM 3 nights a week. One class is scheduled in June (6/16, 6/17, 6/20, 6/23, 6/24, 6/27--Now Completed) and another one in August (8/4, 8/5, 8/8, 8/11, 8/12, 8/15).

The classes finish with a field demonstration and a final exam that must be passed to earn a badge.  The cost is $25 for Grade 8, $20 for Grade 9, which is refunded if you work 10 games for the league this season. ADDED $50 BONUS! First year referees that complete at least 10 games in their first year will receive an additional $50 bonus at the end of the year to help pay for their equipment/clothing.

Please direct questions to Tim Shepodd at secretary1@livermorerefs.org who is handling these class arrangements.

RECRUITING BENEFITS TO EXISTING LRA REFEREES:
If an existing LRA referee recruits a new person to pass the course and complete at least 10 games in his/her first season (2008), then the recruiter (that's you) gets a $50 bonus at the end of the year.

Additionally, more help on the fields improves our coverage...so everyone benefits!

WHICH TEAMS USE WHICH RULES?

This year, LYSL has teams playing under four major sets of rules. When selecting a match to referee, it is important that you know the rules under which that match will be played.  Below is a list of the rules and which teams they apply to. Once you have read the rules, please review the LRA presentation David Bunch gave at the last LRA Meeting on August 27th. [Click here to view presentation.]  The presentation summarizes the rules noting the key points. Specifically, note that the NorCal Fall League rules have a few items that the US Club/NorCal Region Referee Coordinator has since clarified to us as different than the written rules that we were given. Those clarifications are noted in the presentation.

Golden State Soccer League (GSSL) under CYSA:
   U12-U19 Division 1
Noted in Arbiter with a preceding "GS-" before the Livermore team's name.

NorCal under US Club Soccer:
   U9-U13 Division 1

Al Caffodio (AC) under CYSA:
   U09-U10 Division 3
   U16-U19 Division 4 "Traveling House"
Noted in Arbiter with a preceding "AC-" before the Livermore team's name.

SIGNING UP FOR SEASON GAMES AND HOUSE TOURNAMENTS:

If you are a registered referee in Livermore, you should already have an account with http://www.thearbiter.net/. You can log in and sign up for games. Most of the games are available to self-assignment. If you feel you are not seeing games that you think you should be able to self-assign, make sure that (1) you have checked the READY box in the lower left corner of the Arbiter home page AND (2) opened. i.e., un-blocked, the dates in your Arbiter calendar.

TIP: Read the August 2007 LRA newsletter for tons of Arbiter and Assignment information.

Out of Town Referees: If you do not have or do not wish to start an account in Arbiter, let us know the days/hours you have available and what you are looking for and we will assign for you.  You can also use the Tournament Availability form on the LRA web page at: http://www.livermorerefs.org/TournamentAvailability.htm

CONTACTS:

If you have and questions please contact one of LRA's assignors: Tanya Hoppes at assignor1@livermorerefs.org or David Bunch/Corey Nelson at dbunchassignor@aol.com.

To all Referees:

You can profit from referee recruitment! LRA has put a “bounty” on new referees. If you are an actively registered referee and bring in a potential referee who passes the class, and then does at least 10 games for us by the end of the fall season, LRA will slip you a cool $50.  That is easier than doing three U10 matches! So start scouting around now for candidates would make a great ref
